I’ve been thinking. . .
Today, I want to continue thinking about our Lord’s abundance. He lives in unlimited abundance and he is overwhelmingly generous to his children. For this posting I want to do something quite simple. I’m listing some key verses that have captured my attention. I gathered these verses two to three years ago and whenever I return to them, I am again captured by what they say about our heavenly Father’s overwhelming generosity. They describe the overpowering abundance and generosity of our God to us. I’m highlighting key words to draw your attention to them. Please don’t hurry as you meditate on each statement. Take time to let each one soak into your consciousness and draw you to his loving heart.
While they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. II Cor. 9:14
Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! II Cor. 9:15
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us in all wisdom and insight. Eph. 1:7, 8
That you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe. Eph. 1:18, 19
And raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ. Eph. 2:6, 7.
And to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Eph. 3:19
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us. Eph. 3:20
Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory. I Peter 1:8
I’ve found that most Christians are busy, busy, busy. Few seem to know how to spend time in solitude. And few seem to know how to spend time in God’s presence reflecting on the greatness of the Sovereign Lover, who is always calling us to rest in his abundance. Perhaps the verses I’ve just listed can remind you of our heavenly Father’s indescribable generosity and will fill you with a “joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory.” I encourage you to think on these verses daily in the coming week. Let them soak into your consciousness and become a part of your mindset.
